During Winter while we all want to hibernate inside it is really important to complete some Maintenance around your home to ensure that the systems in your home are working efficiently and your home stays warm and dry.
This list is a few things you should check and undertake for your Winter Home Maintenance.
Check & Clear all of your gutters – with additional rain that occurs over the winter months in Auckland, having clean & clear gutters means that the water from your roof is carried easily away from your roof. If you are working off a ladder, follow steps to ensure your safety, more tips for working from a ladder can be found here https://www.sitesafe.org.nz/guides–resources/Safety-Blog/ladders/
Get your flue cleaned – for those with a fireplace, getting the flue cleaned is essential to an efficient and clean working fireplace.
Get on top of any mould – Sometimes ceilings in bathrooms and other spaces can quietly acquire mould, which can increase over the winter months. Reduce this by getting some additional ventilation installed, and keep some windows open which will mean your home is warmer and drier.
Ensure your dryer vents and ducts are clean – over the winter months we use our dryers on a more regular basis. Lint builds up through the vents and ducts, ensure that these are cleared on a regular basis to ensure that dryer fires don’t happen. Also clean your moisture sensors so the dryer is functioning as efficiently as possible. Clear out your extractor fan ducts – Over time ducts for extractor fans accumulate dust and debris which limits the extractor removing the dampness out of the air efficiently.
Clean your heat pump filters/have your heat pump serviced – Again we use our heat pumps much more over the winter in a heating capacity, having dirty filters and an un-serviced unit means the heat pump won’t be operating efficiently costing you lots of money, so consult your manuals to clean your filters and/or contract someone to service the unit.
Check your Electric Blankets – These get pulled out of the cupboards for winter, take time to check them and consider getting them checked by a Electric Blanket Testing company.
